Is It Me?

Now Jesus was deeply troubled, and He exclaimed, "I tell you the truth, one of you will betray Me!"
John 13:21
John 13:21
The story of Judas is a sobering one. Though it appears that Jesus knew about Judas’ future betrayal, he still included Judas in ministry. Judas had to be close to the Lord in order to betray, but what is hard to understand is how Judas could experience all that he did and still have such a hard heart. Judas walked with Jesus. He saw the miracles. He heard Jesus’ teaching about the kingdom of God. Judas performed miracles of healing and casting out demons when Jesus sent them out in pairs. Jesus washed Judas’ feet. And yet Judas betrayed him.
It is a lesson for us that proximity to Jesus does not necessarily change the heart. Just because you come to church. Just because you volunteer for ministry, does not mean automatically that your heart belongs to Jesus. The real question is, are we in this for our own benefit? Those who are only interested in the blessings of God rather than true heart devotion will abandon Jesus when things no longer suit them. Is that you? Or are you committed to him no matter what?
God bless you and your family
