Introducing

Wayne and Olya Zschech

Wayne & Olya Zschech have been making a significant impact in Ukraine for over 30 years. Originally from Hervey Bay, Wayne first moved to Ukraine in April 1993. He planned to give God a year of his life before returning home to become a fighter pilot. God, however, had a better idea!

Wayne is the Field Leader of OM in Ukraine and has pastored a church plant in regional Ukraine. His Ukrainian wife, Olya, and their four sons, Mark and Matfei (twins), Nikita and Timofei, are integral to the ministry.  His passion is to see Christian enterprises established as catalysts for community transformation.   After many innovative endeavours like biogas, biodiesel, and mushroom growing, the last years have been devoted to creating a pilot pyrolysis waste2fuel project. This could become a game changer for generating sustainable income and discipleship among the least reached! Read more on this project through their Clean Soul Clean City website. Wayne also shares many updates of the pyrolysis progress on his Facebook page - facebook.com/wayne.zschech

A lot has happened since the invasion of Russian troops into Ukraine in February 2022. Lives have been turned upside down multiple times.  The Zschech family live in Kaharlyk, a small regional town about an hour South of Kiev. They are on the southern corridor, which was the escape corridor for people. In the first days of the war, unrest was present. They were trying to figure out where was safest. Drone attacks, cruise missiles and other strategic missiles fired from bombers. No place in Ukraine is that safe. They hear the air defence system working nearby, explosions sometimes, and rolling thunder sounds. Apps are available on phones to show where drone or enemy activity is, to keep you informed. The power grid would shut off quite often. But now they can switch to their hardwood solar system, which God impressed upon Wayne to install just before the first missile attacks. If you can power yourself, then you can communicate with the world.
OM has three decades of experience in crisis areas. Many places don’t have vibrant communities of Jesus—these are places in crisis.

Wayne and Olya are deeply grateful for the support that HBBC has provided.  Your monthly financial contributions, gifts purchased through our Two Birds Christmas Catalogue, and your prayers have been invaluable in sustaining their work.  Your support is a testament to the strength of our community and the impact we can make together.
If you would like to support Wayne & Olya in their work through OM, you can contribute through the HBBC missions account (BSB: 704 913 Acc Number: 400041919 Reference: Zschech).
