Let The Children Come

"Then Jesus called for the children and said to the disciples, "Let the children come to Me. Don't stop them! For the Kingdom of God belongs to those who are like these children."
Luke 18:16
Luke 18:16
One of the unique things about Jesus’ teaching is how much he mentions children. It was rare for any religious teacher to pay any attention at all to children beyond the command to obey their parents, but Jesus takes a different stance. Luke 18 is one example. The disciples were trying to shoo the children away from Jesus, but he rebuked them. And he makes a very profound statement, that “the kingdom of God belongs to them.” It is a far cry from how children have been treated in the Christian church down through history. You can imagine the wrath of God stored up for those who have hurt, abused or led astray the children who belong to God.
I think that is why the Christian movement should place a high priority on children. We reflect this by making church activities suitable, safe and faith building for children. We ought to do everything we can to set a godly example in front of them and to consider them when making ministry decisions. But most of all, we make every effort to introduce them to God, teaching them the gospel and helping them to grow in faith. This is a great investment and brings pleasure to God.
