Introducing
Matt & Ruth Lahey

Matthew & Ruth Lahey, together with their children, Charlotte, Cora & Judah, have been serving in Newfoundland, Canada since 2018. Their journey to establish Kilbride Community Church, (now a part of Mile One Mission), began the following year. With a small core team, they embarked on a mission to bring the light of the Gospel to a community shrouded in darkness. Over the next two years, they witnessed the Spirit's movement, opening doors and leading people to faith, in this area of Canada where there hadn’t been an evangelical church in over 100 years.
Matthew updates us on what is currently happening in their mission to the people of Newfoundland.
'When the Lord directed us into the neighbourhood of Kilbride, we contextualised it. We set out to know and understand everything there was to know and understand about our community. Naturally, it made sense - because we’re in the game of planting community churches - to call ourselves Kilbride Community Church. There are/were several reasons for this, and it worked for us...little did we know, however, that the Lord would move us out from Kilbride and into the neighbouring community, Goulds. So, moving next door kicked off the process all over again—a new neighbourhood, a new process, and a new contextualisation. Despite the two communities living nearby and having similar issues and demographics, we knew some differences and aspects made them distinct.
Despite being separated by a single road, the two communities are independent. The tribal lines are well and truly established. After careful prayer and consideration, I proposed to our elders the idea of renaming Kilbride Community Church to Route 10 Community Church (R10). This new name reflects our current location in the Goulds community and keeps our options open for future growth and outreach.
There is much to look forward to in the following months. We invite you to join us in prayer as we ask the Lord to bless our growing community.'
Ruth (nee Dickfos) is known by many in our church, as she grew up at HBBC.
