Immersed in the Word of God

Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.
Psalm 119:105
Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible, 176 verses, around 2500 words. And I think it is no accident that it is about a young man hungering for the word of God. As he writes, he is captured by the wonder, the truth, the comfort, and the guidance of the word of God. He speaks of it correcting him, guiding him, even protecting him. This is a young man who has learned the value of being anchored into something that gives complete guidance for life in all situations.

The Psalmist only had the Old Testament law to cling to, yet he still valued it with great commitment and affection. To him it was God’s word. Today, of course, we have the complete Word of God. We have God’s salvation story revealed from beginning to end, complete with all the truths of God as he has revealed it through the Old Testament Prophets and New Testament Apostles. It stands today as a life transforming message of God to us. Not only does it tell us of God and his salvation, but God also speaks through it personally to us by His Spirit. With such a firm foundation available to us, followers of God would be fools not to immerse themselves in his word.

May the word of God, teach, guide and enrich your life as you live it for Him.

God bless you and your family
