One Body

The human body has many parts, but the many parts make up one whole body. So it is with the body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12:12
1 Corinthians 12:12
One of my favourite biblical metaphors of the church is the one that likens the church family to the human body. Just as there are many and varied parts in the human body, they all function as a whole. It is the same with the church. The body of Christ metaphor in 1 Corinthians 12 shows us that we are all different. We have different gifts. We are all important. No one can say that they are not needed. And they must all work in unity.
A healthy church is a church where everyone contributes according to the grace and abilities God gives them. The enemies of this health are things like lack of commitment, selfishness, factions, disloyalty and the like. In a way, our individuality must be tempered with the high priority of unity.
So what unifies us together in one cooperative, well functioning and impactful body? The unifying factor is the Holy Spirit. We all have the Holy Spirit and though we are very different, we are brought together through him. It is God himself that binds us together in perfect unity so that we function as one. Let us be invested and committed to that in growing measure.
God bless you and your family
