Our Stories

Beach Bash

“We are not preaching about ourselves. Our message is that Jesus Christ is Lord. He also sent us to be your servants. The Scriptures say, “God commanded light to shine in the dark.” Now God is shining in our hearts to let you know that his glory is seen in Jesus Christ.” - 2 Corinthians 4:5-6 CEV
Beach Bash is coming up from 23 – 27 Sep 2024 here in Hervey Bay.  God is Shining in our Hearts is the theme. Thomas Payne tells us what is happening in preparation for the event.

For those who haven’t heard, Beach Bash is an annual outreach youth camp hosted in partnership with Scripture Union. Each year, we welcome 60-80 year 7-12 students from as far south as Brisbane, as far north as Mackay and as far west as Gayndah into the heart of Hervey Bay at CYC Camp Pialba.

I’ve been reflecting on this verse over the last week as I’ve worked with Chloe Bell to plan this year's Beach Bash camp. I think it’s a good summary of our ministry. Our message is that Jesus Christ is Lord, and because he is Lord of the universe, there is hope that transcends present circumstances.

Furthermore, we are empowered supernaturally as leaders who volunteer our time and money to help. Just as God let light shine in darkness when He created the universe, He allows His light to shine through us, into the darkness of our hearts, so that God’s Glory can be seen.

Year after year, I’ve been blessed to see joy and freedom come over young people’s lives as they encounter the Glory of Christ, His Lordship, and His light shining into dark places. As we contemplate the brokenness of our communities and of so many of our young people, I take heart, knowing God delights in shining His light in dark places.
