Celebrating Fathers

So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God's Spirit when He adopted you as His own children. Now we call Him, "Abba, Father."
Romans 8:15
This weekend we celebrate Father’s Day. It is a recognition of fathers and the role they play in their families and also in society.  It is extra special for Christian fathers. The Bible has a lot to say about fatherhood and the importance of their leadership and discipline of their families. In infancy, a child’s relationship with their father sets them up to understand their eventual relationship with God. With our earthly fathers we learn respect, obedience and love. If we cannot find this with our own fathers it can make it difficult in getting to know, obey and trust God.

Fathers have a spiritual calling to set an example, to provide and protect. This is what we value about them. This is why we love them. Let us remember to pray for fathers, that they will step up and do the work God has called them to and to recognise the great reward that waits for those who do well.

God bless you and your family
