Beyond What We Ask

And I will also give you what you did not ask for - riches and fame! No other king in all the world will be compared to you for the rest of your life!
1 Kings 3:13
The rewards from God to a person whose heart is humble and faithful are beyond imagination. God gave Solomon a ‘blank cheque’ so to speak. He said to Solomon “Ask anything and I will give it to you” (1 Kings 3:5).

If God came to us with that offer, I wonder what we would think of. There was a lot on Solomon’s mind. He had just been appointed king. There was a lot of pressure on him, but he knew the one thing he needed was God’s wisdom. Of all the things we could ask for, surely closeness to God must be the most desirable thing.

Because of Solomon’s humble request. Because he was not selfish. God lavished on him all the other blessings as well.

Choosing God as our priority is always going to be a good decision. Though at times it may feel like we are sacrificing, there is no sacrifice we can make that will not be rewarded in overwhelming measure. Jesus said it himself, “but seek first his kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be added to you” Matt 6:33.

God bless you and your family
