Kindness Works Update

Update on the StreetWorks Ministry
As many of you will have heard, the lease we hoped to take in Pialba fell through at the last minute. This meant we moved our Monday evening dinners to the Hervey Bay Neighbourhood Centre. After about 6 weeks that, too, became unavailable for our dinners.
Presently, the StreetWorks team continue to minister to our participants through our Tuesday morning park breakfasts, a fortnightly Saturday breakfast at Torquay park, food pickups and distribution, and attending the Apex Park breakfasts (run by WeCare2). We meet many of our participants there on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings, and at our monthly fund raising stall at Torquay Markets (on the last Saturday of the month). Our team of trained volunteers continue to be a life line to many in the community as a listening ear, supporting people in times of ill health and crisis, helping them move house, providing lifts, and visiting people in hospital and the mental health unit. We also refer people to services that can assist those wishing to move off the streets or away from distressing situations.
At this time, without a permanent base, we have stopped taking clothing and non-perishable food item donations temporarily. BUT donations of long life milk, sugar, hot chocolate/milo and coffee are welcome, as we use these for park breakfasts.
Monthly Fund-raising Market at Torquay
We would also like to ask for donations of good quality second hand items (no furniture, clothing or electricals), and new craft items for us to re-stock our market stall in the lead up to Christmas. If you have quality second hand items, plants, new crafts, or jams and chutneys, we would love to receive them during the week at the Church office, between 9- 3.00pm Tuesday to Friday, or on Sunday morning. The market stall provides an opportunity for our participants to join in and help raise funds, is helping us establish connections in the non-Church community and is a great opportunity for us to promote and have one-on-one conversations about Kindness Works in the park.
Many thanks,
Joanne Lambden
