The Influence of the World

"The people of Israel mingle with godless foreigners, making themselves as worthless as a half-baked cake!
Hosea 7:8
Everywhere in the Bible there are dangers expressed about godly people being polluted by the secular ideologies surrounding them. In the Old Testament, it was mostly idol worship. In the New Testament, it was mostly paganism and philosophy. Throughout history, ungodly ideas in society have been a threat to the purity of God’s people.

The temptation in our current day is to soften the word of God in order to appease, appeal to, or avoid the offense of the society around us. There are times when the church is even tempted to apologise for the truth.

The word of God to Hosea still speaks to us today. It is as relevant now as it was back then. If you try to please both God and the world you are as useless as a cake that is cooked only on one side. The truth of God remains true regardless of the society around us. It is eternal. We are servants of God and, therefore, ambassadors of His truth. Let us stand firm in a world that is shifting fast from the truths of God. Let us, at least, be reminders to the world of God’s love, truth, and calling.

God bless you and your family,
Brett
