Grateful Living

Grateful Living

By Jane Ganter

My heart is full of grateful praise to God for his mercy.
Few moments in normal everyday life generate fear and distress to the same extent as the one word: CANCER.

This was my experience over the past year. Worrying symptoms led me to a series of medical visits and procedures. Then, the phone call came with the diagnosis of endometrial cancer.
After the initial shock, I spiralled down into disbelief, fear and depression. Yet in the depth of my distress, the LORD assured me of his presence through all I would face.
Then came the months of treatment – minor and major surgeries and many visits to medical professionals both here in Hervey Bay and Brisbane. Following surgery, six weeks of radiation therapy began.

Where was the LORD in all of this? As my father, he was in control of all circumstances, including my health; as Jesus, he was beside me as my Lord and Saviour; by his spirit, he was in me as my comforter.

Where were you in all of this? You, my brothers and sisters, surrounded me with prayer, concern and kindness. You were the powerhouse of prayer, releasing God’s blessing and goodness into my situation. Not a day went by when I wasn’t conscious of God’s people praying and declaring the blessing of the LORD over me. When I felt unable to call on the LORD for help on my behalf, many people were calling on the LORD for me. You, my family, said kind words, phoned and texted, sent cards and notes and visited. Gifts from the heart reminded me of how much my family in Christ cared for me.

God’s word has been my fortress.
'Don’t be anxious about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then, you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.' -  Philippians 4:6-7

And the LORD heard all the prayers of his people and answered with his good hand of healing on me. Thanks be to God, I am now cancer-free!
