Peace and comfort in times of trouble

So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.
Let the oceans roar and foam. Let the mountains tremble as the waters surge!
Psalm 46: 2-3
My devotional reading on Monday morning after our flood event was this Psalm.
So incredibly timely, as the living word of God so often is.

The Psalm recognises that the world is not altogether a peaceful place. The imagery here evokes the fears and turmoil of natural disasters, political instability, economic and organisational collapse, war, and the judgement of God. And yet the Psalm is one of hope.

In the middle of this confused and unstable world, God brings us to Him. In Him we find peace and comfort. Not because we have solutions, but because He has the solutions. God still has authority over all of it. Those who have faith and are wise will remember that and be comforted.

The Psalm concludes with those beautiful words that call us to calm down and remember how great He is.

"Be still, and know that I am God! I will be honoured by every nation. I will be honoured throughout the world."
Psalm 46:10

God bless you and your family,
