Mountains and Valleys

Jesus said to them, "You faithless people! How long must I be with you?
How long must I put up with you?
Mark 9:19
How long must I put up with you?
Mark 9:19
Life is rarely constant. There will always be ups and downs. One moment you are on a high, the next moment you are barely surviving. Some people experience greater swings than others, but it is a fact that meets us all. It is so important in these times that our hope in God remains constant.
In one of the spectacular stories of Jesus, He goes up on to a mountain with three of His disciples. What happened there was a great experience for all as Jesus was transfigured into a glorious heavenly figure. Moses and Elijah appeared there. It was a heart stopping moment. You can read about it in Matthew 17 and Mark 9.
But when Jesus came down from the mountain, He faced a situation of great discouragement. It appeared that His disciples were unable to command an evil spirit out of a young lad. Jesus’ frustration was obvious and is captured in verse 19.
Faith ought to be something that is not conditional upon circumstances. Since our faith is in God, who does not change, should it not be constant? A faith that is wavering shows that our eyes are not really on God, but on the situation around us. So let us learn to look beyond what is in front of us and, through patience, knowledge, and trust, keep steady along our walk.
God bless you and your family,
Brett
