It cannot be kept quiet

He replied, "If they kept quiet, the stones along the road would burst into cheers!"
Luke 19:40
Luke records for us that on the day of the Triumphal entry, Palm Sunday, the crowds cried out “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord.”

Some of the Pharisees were horrified at the proclamation and told Jesus to rebuke His followers for saying such things. Could it be that the Pharisees were concerned that the Romans could interpret it as an uprising? Could it be that the Pharisees believed the claims to be false and, therefore, akin to blasphemy? Could it be that they were just jealous? How can we know what was going on in the minds of the Pharisees?

But, what we do know is what Jesus actually said, “If they keep quiet, the stones along the road would cry out.” I take great comfort in this verse. What Jesus is saying is that His glory will be made known. You cannot squash it. You cannot snuff out the light of truth. Many have tried to stop the knowledge of Jesus from spreading. History tells of regimes that try to suppress the knowledge of God by making it illegal to speak of Him. Others try to proclaim alternate truths, thus crowding out the knowledge of God. And even the church itself has had times where its own unfaithfulness has tarnished the message of Jesus. And yet the glory of the Lord Jesus is more well known and more widely accepted today than at any other time in history.

The truth about Jesus just cannot be kept quiet. So let us join the procession and shout His praises loudly and confidently.

God bless you and your family,
Brett
