Hervey Bay Christian Minister's Association

By James Dearden
At the end of 2023, I joined the Hervey Bay Christian Ministers Association (HBCMA) as an executive member. Early in 2024 the secretary moved to Rockhampton, and being nominated to replace them, I accepted the role to support the ministry.
Last year I saw a change of the guard happening from those who had been leading the association, some of whom had been there for many years. Their service has brought a depth of stability, wisdom and experience, but they were wanting others to step up into their positions.
At the end of last year, I was nominated as Chair for the HBCMA. This is not something I aspired to, yet God placed me here for a time to see this association continue to flourish and grow. My heart and vision have always been to see the residents of Hervey Bay (Wide Bay included) come into a saving relationship with Jesus Christ. Being a part of HBCMA is another aspect of seeing this vision come to fruition.
I want to sure up our team moving into the future as the ‘veterans’ step aside. I long to see our younger cohort step into these roles. Would you pray with me that we will have good successors move onto our executive committee for 2025? Let us pray that Godly men or women will step onto the committee who have a passion to see our city changed and transformed.
I want to see the ministers growing in unity, in partnership with one another and that this, in turn, would flow on to our congregations. We want our churches supporting one another deeply. This doesn't necessarily mean we are all joining together physically on Sundays, but it does mean that, as brothers and sisters in Christ, we can appreciate and celebrate what God is doing in each church.
I appreciate that each church is different and that is okay. We may not agree on all doctrines with all churches; however, we unite under the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Saviour.
Like St Augustine said, “In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty and in all things, charity.”
