Don't Forget

Let all that I am praise the LORD; may I never forget the good things He does for me.
Psalm 103:2

Humans have always devoted themselves to rituals. We create regular, observed events to remember and celebrate/commemorate important milestones. Things like birthdays, anniversaries, and remembrance days.

God also established rituals for His own people as part of their worship calendar. There were feasts, offerings, celebrations, and observances. This has continued in the Christian church. This weekend we come upon one of those – Easter.

Our Easter is in line with the Jewish celebration of Passover, which is very fitting, as the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ is the heavenly, eternal fulfilment of the Passover story. But it is more than just remembering. We know that Jesus died on the cross. He rose from the dead on the third day. These are facts that we can repeat in our head.

But the ‘remembering’ that we really want to do is to re-feel the impact of our salvation. We need to re-live how we first embraced Him. We should re-capture that time when the Holy Spirit gave us deep insight into what it meant for Jesus to suffer for our punishment. And for our heart to burst open in praise to God, never reducing this display of His grace to something like a distant memory of a past joy. May you never forget His blessings.

God bless you and your family,
Brett
