Sending Them Out

"Dedicate Barnabas and Saul for the special work to which I have called them."
Acts 13:2
Acts 13:2
The early mission work of Paul stands as the most significant expansion of the church in early church history. From Syria to Rome and beyond, the apostle Paul's work is recorded and well known. His exploits are recorded mainly in the book of Acts, but we learn a lot about his work in his letters as well.
Antioch was the sending church. They fasted and prayed together. They commissioned Barnabas and Paul. They supplied their financial needs and backed them in prayer. And provided them a home base to return to. Not much is known about the Antioch church, but it was a most significant component of the success of Paul’s three missionary journeys.
We, also, have sent out missionaries. We currently partner with some who work overseas, Alan and Leanne, Wayne and Olya, Matt and Ruth, Fiji Bible college and a number of other short term projects. Then those within Australia: Max and Helen, and Josie with Power to Change. All of these have gone out from us to mission work.
This week we commission Alan and Leanne who are returning to their work in Cambodia after a break. As their sending church, like Antioch, we play a crucial role in their support. It is good for us to understand our partnership in the gospel with those in mission and to be their support. Remember them in prayer as we continue in our commitment to provide for their needs. This is the ongoing glorious work of God in the world.
