Missions and Ministry

Pastoral Care Update

I have been overseeing Pastoral care now for 5.5 years. I have loved overseeing this ministry as I have walked alongside people through very tough times. It is always an honour doing this when people are quite vulnerable from their life circumstances. I have prayed, laughed, read the Bible and teared up with many people over the years.

Pastoral Care is not possible in a church our size when only relying on the Pastors themselves. I have an amazing team of currently 19 team members that are within 5 different teams. These teams are Hospitalisation visits, Over 65's, Freedom Session and General Pastoral care. Quite a few of these 19 team members overlap in these 5 teams in addition to volunteering in other areas of the church.

The other day Brett shared that he trusts me a lot in the ministry of Pastoral Care. I said "thankyou," and as I walked away, I quickly had a thought. Brett said he trusts me, but I trust my team. Each of them do a lot of work in this church informally and “officially,” but they help the church feel cared for. My team does far more pastoral care than I could ever do, and for that my friends, I thank you. You are a blessing to this church and all who call it home. If you see one of my Pastoral Carers, why don’t you thank them and encourage them for their time and energy. They are very gifted in what they do.

With my current oversight of four ministries and Pastoral Care being just one, I am starting to look at advertising for a Pastoral Care Coordinator to lead and supervise 4 out of the 5 Pastoral Care teams. If this is something you are gifted in and feel called to, why don’t you contact me for the Position Description and have a chat with me regarding what this would entail: james@hbbc.com.au
