Missions and Ministry
Life Groups Update

What a fantastic ministry Life Groups are. Where a group of people who know and love Jesus come together for prayer, Bible reading, fellowship, and a sense of belonging. Sometimes, even non-Christians get drawn in by this sense of close community, which is a wonderful testimony for the church. Did you know that each week, approximately 263 people are registered in life groups, with 22 different groups available? Wow! There are 22 little church branches of HBBC happening throughout Hervey Bay every week. Each of these groups is headed by a leader or two who do a lot, especially during the school term.
They have the responsibility of teaching and facilitating, communications, administration, pastoral care, etc. This is a big job, yet each of them is gifted and joyful in leading their group. This is not an easy role, yet the leaders do an incredible job, and the group continues to grow. Thankfully, our vision for each leader is to continue delegating roles and responsibilities to those in their group who are gifted in specific areas. Such as caring for those in the group and checking in on those who haven’t attended for a while. Or having a turn at teaching and facilitating. This involves discipling and utilising the church to share the gifts and burdens of leadership. Why don’t you thank your Life Group leader next time you see them for the work they do for you and your mini church family?
Each group has done, and continues to do, amazing things each week. Several groups use the sermon notes that complement Brett’s teaching from Sunday. Other groups will use their own material, whether reading through a book of the Bible, focusing on a topical subject, or following other materials, such as a book.
With all of this and our church growing in weekly attendance, we need more people to lead Life Groups. If you are a member or looking to become a member of the church and feel called to shepherd a group of people towards Jesus Christ, why not contact me at james@hbbc.com.au or the office?
Your brother in Christ,
James Dearden (Associate Pastor)
