Choosing God, the Eternal Investment

"But when the young man heard this, he went away sad, for he had many possessions."
Matthew 19:22
Matthew 19:22
Though the rich young man obeyed all the commandments, he lacked one thing. He allowed his wealth to come between him and God. In essence, he failed to obey the first commandment “You shall have no other gods.” God hates it when his own children cling to ‘another father.’ When God alone ceases to become our devotion, our hope, our affection, then we become like adulterers, giving our heart to something else.
God loves us. He loves us so much that He sacrificed everything. And He loves us so much that He will target the very thing that stands between Him and you.
It is important to realise that every material blessing we have in our life comes from God. We entered this world with nothing. Everything we have is a blessing from God. But when we cling onto the blessing instead of God, we risk our eternal souls.
For that is the question the rich man asked of Jesus, “What must I do to have eternal life?” Choosing God is an eternal investment. Above all else, we should seek that.
