Well Done

"Master, you gave me two bags of silver to invest, and I have earned two more."
The master said, 'Well done, my good and faithful servant."
Matthew 25:22-23

It was not the amount gained that the master was impressed with. It was that they had been faithful with what had been entrusted to them. The man entrusted with 5 talents gained 5 more and the man entrusted with 2 talents gained 2 more. Though the final return was different, they were both diligent with the money.

This parable of Jesus reminds us that God does not expect us to be more than we are. But only to be faithful with what He has given us. Each of us has been entrusted with something; abilities, opportunities, connections, resources, time, and spiritual gifts.

A selfish and lazy follower will ignore those things and use them only for pleasure and security. But a true follower of Jesus will make use of what they have for the benefit of the one they follow.

Is Jesus just a convenience to us, or is He truly Lord?

There is a warning in this parable as well. There was one servant who did not use what he was given for the benefit of his master. That servant was punished. But to those who live to please Jesus, there will be a “Well done” at the end.

Do not waste away your life. Live it for the “Well done.”
