Thalia's Story – Hope amid Darkness
This week, we share a powerful story of hope and transformation. Thalia’s journey with anxiety and depression began early in life and led to some of her darkest moments. Through the faithful witness of a friend and the life-giving message of Jesus, Thalia encountered peace for the very first time.
Thalia’s life has been marked by deep anxiety and depression for as long as she can remember. From a young age, thoughts of ending her life were sadly familiar. But just a few months ago, something remarkable happened.
She had booked a personal training session with a man named Thomas (you might remember his story from last week). That day, overwhelmed and on the brink of giving up, she called Thomas to cancel their plans. Instead of letting her face the moment alone, he came straight over and suggested they go for a walk.
As they walked, Thomas began sharing about Jesus and how He had transformed his life. Usually, Thalia would normally have shut down the conversation — but this time, something inside her was different. She listened. For 30 minutes, she absorbed the words about Jesus and His love. When Thomas apologised for talking about faith so much, Thalia responded, “Don’t be sorry. Please don’t stop. I’ve never felt such peace in my heart as I do right now.”
Thomas prayed with her, and in that moment, Thalia felt something she couldn’t explain — as though Jesus had performed heart surgery on her. “It was like He took my heart of stone and gave me a heart of flesh,” she later said. For the first time in her life, she felt no anxiety.
That encounter marked the beginning of her relationship with Jesus Christ. Since then, Thalia has joined a Life Group and started attending church. Her home, once quiet and heavy with sadness, is now filled with rejoicing — she sings to Jesus while doing chores and talks with God throughout the day.
While Thalia still faces mental health struggles, she now knows her Saviour — and where her true hope comes from.
