Gratitude

Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
Psalm 95:2
Last Sunday I preached on faith and prayer going hand in hand. Yet, sometimes when we know we should be praying, we don't know what to pray.

This reminds me of the start of Psalm 95, verse 2. "Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song."

Throughout Refresh we have stories of gratitude, which are encouraging and uplifting. Having a mindset of gratefulness is a wonderful thing and can transform how we perceive the world around us. Not to have rose coloured glasses or be unrealistic, but to be optimistic. When we have this we can bring it to the Lord as well (of course this mindset comes from the Lord also). When we don't know what to pray, coming to Him with thanksgiving first, is a great way to approach Him in prayer. Sometimes it's even worth just coming to him with a whole bunch of things that we are thankful for, with no other agenda in mind. I try to do this often.

This morning I was on a conference call with other associate Pastors across Queensland. Not every church has a good DNA and culture like ours as I heard snippets of church life elsewhere. When I heard this, it made me sad for those churches, but it also made me grateful and appreciative of our church. We have a healthy DNA and culture and it is growing. That is my grateful reflection for today to my (our) God.

What are you grateful for today as you reflect and think about your life? Why don't you share this with God.

Your brother in Christ,
James
