A Heart to Serve

Jaimee serves in Playgroup, Kids Church & Kids Club after moving to Hervey Bay three years ago with her husband, Costa and their three beautiful children.

Jaimee’s journey of faith didn’t start in childhood. It was a simple yet confronting question from someone: “Do you think you’d go to heaven or hell?” that caused her to pause and reflect deeply on life. That conversation led her to Jesus, and in 2016, she was baptised. Since then, she says, she’s never looked back. While life has had its ups and downs, she knows God has been with her every step of the way.

Her passion for serving others, especially children, was sparked at her previous church, Lifepointe on the Sunshine Coast. She remembers being so inspired by Ursula, the kids’ ministry leader, who ran children’s programs five days a week. “Her passion was insane,” she says. “I felt God was planting seeds in me through her example.” At the time, Jaimee was pregnant with her third child, so it wasn’t quite the right season to jump in. But she held on to that desire to serve, trusting that God would open the door when the time was right—and He did.

Today, Jamiee serves in three key areas at church: she helps lead Playgroup on Tuesdays and Thursdays, running the music sessions, and is also involved in our Sunday program for 3 to 5-year-olds, as well as Kids Club on a Friday night.

When asked what she loves most about serving, she lights up talking about the children: “I love seeing their little faces light up. I want them to have fun and remember church as a place of joy and happiness. That’s important to me.”

Of course, serving hasn’t come without its challenges. One of the biggest for her has been stepping out of her comfort zone. But she’s done it—for the sake of the kids and the sake of Jesus. She says, “I want people to see the light of Jesus shining through me. I want to give like Jesus and serve like Jesus.”

Serving has also shaped her spiritually. “I’m just so thankful for where God has placed me,” she reflects. “He has the path planned out. Through volunteering, I’ve learned how important it is to make people feel welcomed and valued. And I’ve seen how God is shaping me into a leader.”

Her encouragement to others thinking about volunteering? “Jump on board! It’s the best thing I’ve ever done—all for the glory of God. It’s so rewarding.” She believes what makes serving at church different is that it’s not just about helping—it’s spiritually rich and deeply fulfilling.

As a church family, we can support her by praying for wisdom and guidance as she continues to surrender her life to God and follow His leading.
