He also made the Stars

“He determines the number of the stars and calls them each by name.”
Psalm 147:4
Psalm 147:4
Read Genesis Chapter 1.
Last Sunday, we had the privilege of hearing from Dr. Ron Neller of Creation Ministries.
One of my favourite aspects of Creation Ministries is looking beyond our planet and into space! I have watched countless videos on space eager to learn and understand more.
We see in verse 16 there is this small sentence "He also made the stars."
Such a short phrase, yet it points to something so massive we can’t even begin to fully grasp it.
Have you ever looked at the size of stars or other celestial objects in our universe? Have you ever looked at the immense number of objects in our universe and what it holds? Let me give you a small (big) idea.
Our sun is just one star in our galaxy, the Milky Way. Estimates for the Milky Way are anywhere between 100 Billion - 400 Billion stars!.... Wow. Our Milky Way Galaxy is an average size galaxy with some much smaller and some, much larger. There are currently estimated in our observable universe (which is how far out we can see with the James Webb Telescope currently) is 2 Trillion Galaxies... Okay, so how many stars do they estimate are within 2 Trillion Galaxies? They are saying 1 Septillion... (Ummmm what is that number?) A septillion is a number with 24 zeros. So it looks like this 1,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.... This is a big number. That’s an unfathomably large number. Sometimes, analogies help us wrap our minds around these kinds of things (If we can).
Let's say every star in the universe is 1 drop of water. If we were to tip every star/drop of water into the Earth's ocean, we could fill the Earth's entire ocean 3 Million times over?... Let that sink in and perhaps re-read that. This is just the observable universe as we know it.
This kind of information is mind boggling. Yet, it helps me step back and give glory to, and be in awe of our God, who in one small sentence, "He also made the stars", made all this happen.
Personally, it's so hard to believe all this came from the big bang (which is an evolution theory). That this universe was all random chance and we were the lucky ones that came out of it. The universe points to an all powerful and all knowing God to orchestrate this complexity and size.
May we, this week, continue to give glory to God for His creation.
Your brother in Christ,
James
