A Servant Heart for the Next Generation

“For over 30 years, Hervey Bay Baptist Church has been home to me, and Kids Church has been my place of serving,” shares Gail Wells. “From the very beginning, God made it clear that He wanted me to pour into children’s lives.”
Gail became a Christian at a Billy Graham Crusade and, soon after, knew where God was calling her—teaching children about His love. With a background in primary teaching, she has faithfully served in Kids Church and Religious Instruction in local schools for over 40 years.
Along the way, she has been blessed by the encouragement and example of other faithful leaders and friends—such as Colleen Fuller, who serves passionately with children and families, and her dear mentor, Julie Terry, whose Christlike encouragement helped guide her through both joyful and challenging seasons.
“I often find myself praying, Lord, give me the words the children need to hear through Your Spirit. Teaching is not always easy, but it is so rewarding—especially when children write thank-you notes or ask for their own Bible to take home.”
What inspires Gail most is seeing the fruit of long-term faithfulness: children from Kids Church growing up to serve as leaders themselves. “That’s when you know it’s worth it,” she says. “It makes me feel special when the children simply call me by my Kids Church name— Just Gail.
Through it all, Gail’s heart remains humble and grateful:
“I couldn’t just sit in church week after week without serving God. The children have given so much back to me, and I know I can depend fully on Him. Thank You, Lord, for the privilege of serving.”
