Jesus Loves the Children

Jesus said,
"Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these."
Matthew 19:14
When I was young I remember hearing the refrain from my grandparents and even sometimes by my own parents, “Children should be seen and not heard.” I think at the core of this sentiment was the idea that children ought to be respectful when around adults. But that is not how I received it as a child. What I heard was “You are not important.” But Jesus reveals the opposite truth.

In Jesus’ time, it was not considered proper for children to approach a Rabbi. And yet those mothers saw something in Jesus that knew he would be different. Jesus totally overturns the culture of his day and not only welcomed the children but speaks of them as heirs of the kingdom. There are many other things Jesus said about children that place them as high priorities in the kingdom of God.

I greatly value ministry to children. When the church places a high priority on children, then they are being like Jesus. Ministries such as Playgroup, Creche, Sunday School, Kids Club, Youth Ministry, RI, Chaplaincy, fostering, Youth Mentoring, etc are to be strongly supported and prayed for.

May God bless all the parents of the children and all the hard working staff and volunteers who minister to the children in Jesus name.
