Grateful Living
Shining Beyond Hervey Bay

God is working in Mundubbera. What started as a small congregation of just 15 people has become a living testimony of how prayer, unity, and partnership can bring renewal.
When members of Point Vernon Lighthouse Life Group at HBBC first learned about Mundubbera Baptist’s challenges—no pastor, declining numbers, and uncertainty about the future—they felt compelled to respond.
Keith Stevenson, who was already supporting the church as their Regional Minister, and Lindy invited them to a BBQ. Soon, this partnership became an 18-month journey of visits, worship, preaching, and shared meals. From small beginnings, great things can grow. HBBC youth and kids ran a holiday program and showed up to stand alongside this country church.
During that time, faithful leadership from retired pastor Lawrence and Pat Dorsett helped keep the flock cared for, while the Mundubbera congregation itself committed to daily prayer for revival in their church and town. God answered.
In His timing, He raised Derek Schiller, a country tradesman and preacher from St George, to become their pastor. Derek’s willingness to serve part-time aligns perfectly with the church’s needs—and more importantly, his heart for the gospel has ignited fresh hope.
Today, Mundubbera Baptist is no longer a small remnant. When Kathy and Mark Payne visited in August, the congregation had grown to around 50 people, including 15 children and several young families. The atmosphere was electric with faith, joy, and expectation.
But the story isn’t finished. As a church family, we are reminded that the call of Jesus is to be His witnesses not only in our own neighbourhood (our Jerusalem), but also in the surrounding towns (our Judea). God is moving in Mundubbera, and He calls us to continue praying, uniting, and believing for His Kingdom to come in every town and city.
Let us continue to lift Mundubbera Baptist—and other churches like it—before the Lord. May we have eyes to see where He is at work, hearts willing to join hands, and faith to believe for even greater things ahead.
