Grateful Living

Purpose, Joy and a Heart for People

This week, meet Serena Saurini — a woman whose life overflows with purpose, joy, and a heart for people. Juggling the many roles of wife, mother, family day care educator, and volunteer, Serena finds deep fulfilment in both nurturing young children and building connections within her church and community. Serena encourages others to grow in faith, friendship, and fun — living out her belief that everything meaningful begins with a simple, “Yes.”
By Serena Saurini

Just like many women of my age, the word busy best reflects my life: a wife, a mother of three, a family day care educator and a volunteer both with the church and through community sports, such as coaching football and futsal.

Opening a family day care was an easy decision, because I have always enjoyed children. They are fascinating beings; no two days are the same. The complicated relationships adults create by dwelling in the past and holding grudges don’t exist with young children. Each day is a new chapter. Young children are resilient, intelligent, and pure of heart. There’s a lot to learn from them: it is a privilege to be part of their lives and teach them to be fair, to be strong, and to be the best they can be.

While I enjoy spending time with young children, adult conversations are also welcome. I volunteer at the church playgroup and lead two Life Groups: Flourish Ladies and Flourish Family.

The first fosters a sense of fellowship among the ladies. Over the years I have been leading it, I have seen people come and go, and I hope that our listening ears have been helpful. Life Groups should be more than just reading the Bible; they should be about supporting one another, connecting, and reflecting on different perspectives of God’s words.

Flourish Family is about sharing with families and fostering a deep sense of identity in Christ, not just for me and my husband, but also for our children. We have connected with other Christian families and have been blessed with many wonderful moments together such as a camping trip, several dinners, barbecues, and weekend outings.

As I always say to my children, everything starts with a yes!

Say yes to joining a Life Group, a church, or a playgroup, just as the scripture in Ecclesiastes 8:15 says:
So, I recommend having fun, because there is nothing better for people in this world than to eat, drink and enjoy life; that way, they will experience some happiness along with all the hard work God gives them under the sun.
