Kindness Works

By Joanne Lambden,
Kindness Works is HBBC’s Not-for-Profit Charity that reaches out into Hervey Bay community through two different approaches –
The year 2025 has been a year of new starts.
Coach Family and Youth Mentoring
Our Coach Coordinator, Di Priest, kicked off Youth Coach mentoring in partnership with Carinity Education at Glendyne Education and Training Centre. With the support of a major Carinity grant this wonderful support to individual students will help establish the program over its first three years.
We were sad to say farewell to Di after four years in the role at the end of 2025, but we hope to advertise this vital ministry part-time role in the new year.
By the end of this year more than 250 people in our community have been trained in Coach mentoring, more than 30 families have been impacted and at the end of its first year, more than 15 students are being provided a personal mentor at Glendyne to share life with.
StreetWorks
Our StreetWorks ministry has continued to grow also, despite being without our Lounge facility for over 15 months, but, the very good news is that from the 24 November 2025, we have a new Lounge! The address is 127 Torquay Road, Scarness. This little blue cottage near the intersection of Queen Rd/ Torquay Rd, will become our new Lounge (Community Care Centre) for people experiencing homelessness and doing life tough. Our fearless leader, John, can hardly contain himself with excitement for the year ahead!!
We are thankful too for the three new volunteers who joined the team this year, commencing their training and committing to serve in this community mission. We have a team now of some 14 Spiritual Parents, mentoring, supporting, loving, praying and moving amongst this community as the Holy Spirit brings newcomers across their paths.
Finally, 2025 also saw the changing of the guard in our Board with three new volunteers stepping up to serve on the Board, for which we are very thankful. Paul Scully serves as our new Chairman and was joined by Carol Yates and Andrew Crighton, all with ministry experience, and importantly, a heart for the broken and forgotten.
Overall, we give all thanks and honour to our loving Heavenly Father, He who sees us, the people we minister to and their needs, and loves us all, wherever we are at, longing for our relationship with Him to grow.
Every volunteer, be that a Coach mentor or volunteer with Street Works, see it as a privilege to be able to connect with people in difficult life circumstances and hope that they see Jesus at work in us too.
