Grateful Living

Dale and Leanne Gibb's Journey - God is With Us.

“To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven … ”
Ecclesiastes 3:1
God is with you.
He speaks.
He brings peace.
And He is faithful—through every season.

When Dale first heard the doctor’s concern during the early appointments, fear weighed heavily on his shoulders. Even before the specialist confirmed the diagnosis, he felt the burden of what might lie ahead. He remembers leaving the specialist appointment, walking out to meet James and Leanne, and breaking down in tears.

During the initial GP appointments, Leanne was away in Moree with her daughter at a women’s weekend conference. They were studying Ecclesiastes and reflecting on the verse, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens.” She sensed that a new season was approaching, though she had no idea what it would be. When she came home from the weekend away, Dale told her that the specialist said he had cancer. She felt those words from Scripture settle over the situation in a new and sobering way.

Those early days were filled with raw emotions. Dale asked the question many ask: “Why me?” There was sadness and fear, but also the comfort of being surrounded by a trusted circle that prayed with him. Leanne carried a quiet conviction that God was preparing them for a miracle, even though she didn’t yet know what it would look like.

The months of waiting—July through October, and even into November—were long and heavy. Appointments, scans, and uncertainty stretched their days, but through it all, they both describe the same experience: a deep sense of peace that could only come from God. Dale felt as though Someone was watching over him, giving him assurance about the future even while the diagnosis loomed. Leanne felt that same calm presence guiding and holding them.

During this time, faith deepened. Dale’s prayer life strengthened, and both Christian and non-Christian friends showed kindness and support. He says his faith grew more during this season than at any time since his baptism in 2011. For Leanne, the reality of community—people praying, reaching out, and standing beside them—became a beautiful reminder of God’s care.

One of the most powerful moments occurred through a dream, recorded by Leanne on 22 September. In the dream, Dale was standing in front of the church, thanking everyone for their prayers and announcing that his specialist had told him he was cancer-free. Just over a week later, on 1 October, he attended his appointment and heard those exact words: there was no cancer.

As a couple, they prayed and talked through every stage. Telling their children was one of the hardest moments, but the peace God gave sustained them. When the healing was confirmed, they weren’t surprised—but they were deeply grateful.

Looking back, they have learned to trust God more deeply, to pray continually, and to recognise His presence in every season. Through hardship and healing, their confidence in God has only grown, and they remain grateful for the peace that has carried them throughout the journey.
