Confidence and Peace

Then the church throughout Judea, Galilee and Samaria enjoyed a time of peace.
It was strengthened; and encouraged by the Holy Spirit, it grew in numbers,
living in the fear of the Lord.
Acts 9:31
It is amazing how quickly things in life can turn. Acts 9:31 speaks of peace coming over the church and a season of blessed growth and maturity. The context for this is Paul’s conversion. Paul was a prominent Jew who unleashed a season of great persecution on the early church. He used his authority to imprison and even kill the followers of Jesus. His leadership spawned a great persecution over the church. But suddenly and dramatically he was converted. Having met the risen Lord Jesus on the road to Damascus, Paul turned from being a man that the Christians feared, to being one of the greatest apostles in the early church. This is what God can do. We should not be undone by things in the world. We may hear of all manner of evil and persecution, yet in a moment, God can change it. Our news and current affairs organizations will always have something terrible to report. That is what attracts viewers. But we trust that God is also doing much good in and around these situations. And we know how quickly God can bring peace. So have confidence in God.

Yours in Christ,

Brett
