He Will Never Leave You

"If you love Me, obey My commandments.
And I will ask the Father, and He will give you another Advocate,
who will never leave you.
John 14:15-16
When people think of holy places they often think of temples, shrines, memorials etc. For most religions, the idea of a holy place means that there is a location where ‘god’ is more present.

This was true in the Old Testament with the Jewish temple, a place where God dwelled. And yet the gospel changes all that.

When Jesus died on the cross, the sin in our souls was paid for. This allowed the Holy Spirit to cleanse us of our sin and also to take up residence within us.

What this means for us is, under the new covenant of the gospel, the presence of God is not in a certain building or a particular location but within us. We are, in fact, the house of God and not some building or shrine. The presence of the Holy Spirit is with us wherever we are. We do not have to go on a pilgrimage to find Him. Since He is with us, then others around us will sense Him.

This is particularly noticeable when Christians gather together. This is a comforting reality. Though you cannot see God, He is always with you. And though you do not detect Him through the physical senses, you can experience Him through your spirit.

As you take the presence of the Holy Spirit with you wherever you go, take this truth as well, “He is with me.”
