It Is Worth It

A single day in Your courts is better than a thousand anywhere else! I would rather be a gatekeeper in the house of my God than live the good life in the homes of the wicked. For the LORD God is our sun and our shield. He gives us grace and glory. The LORD will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right. O LORD of Heaven's Armies, what joy for those who trust in You.
Psalm 84:10-12
Psalm 84:10-12
Will it all be worth it?
Whenever we embark on a commitment or a project or a journey we often reflect on whether it will be beneficial. Any investment of time, effort, sacrifice, money, is worthy of this reflection.
I might embark on a course of study. Will it open up better opportunities for me?
I might consider separating a portion of my spending money for investment. Will the returns be worth it? This is the cost-benefit approach to many things in life.
In this beautiful Psalm, the focus is on the wonder of the presence of God. In the words of Psalm 84, there is no experience, no position, no amount of wealth and prestige which can compare with being in God’s presence.
For us the promises of the kingdom of God far outweigh any cost involved in pursuing Him. When we choose God as our priority, he pours out his blessing on us. Even in this life God blesses us, but that is just a drop in the ocean compared with the rewards that he is storing up for us in the eternal kingdom.
Is following God worth the cost? Without a doubt, yes, absolutely. You just wait until you see what he has in store for you who have loved him and followed him.
