Gifts from God

That night the LORD appeared to Solomon in a dream, and God said,
"What do you want? Ask, and I will give it to you!"
1 Kings 3:5
King Solomon is known for his wisdom. The Bible claims that there was no one alive in his time that compared to his wisdom. Kings and wise men came from all around that part of the world to listen to his wisdom. His wisdom generated wealth for himself and his people and one of the most glorious periods of peace and prosperity the nation of Israel had ever known. It was truly the glory days. But it is important to realize that this is all because God gave it to him. God told Solomon he could have anything he wanted. Solomon asked for wisdom. And God answered his request.

I think it is very helpful for us to see everything in our lives that we value and cherish as a gift from God. When we see the blessings in our lives as gifts, we treat them with greater respect. We know how to cherish gifts. They have deep meaning for us. When we look at things like food, home, family, life success, health, we will cherish these more if we see them as gifts.

The other interesting lesson here is that God has the ability to bestow on us certain characteristics. It is very clear that Solomon’s abilities were not the result of hard work or study. God bestowed wisdom on him. It was a supernatural thing. This is the same reality behind Spiritual gifts. Each of us has received something like what Solomon received.

In our walk with God we should be eager to discover what this particular blessing is.

Ask him to show you. Seek it out and serve him with it.
