Meet the Elders
Nathan Wyer
Nathan is a Queenslander, through and through. Nathan was born in Innisfail, moved with his mother and father to Murgon, Gympie and Gold Beach, lived and grew up in Aspley/ Chermside, moved out of home to Gladstone, Bowen and for the last 10 years lived in Hervey Bay.
Nathan has been married to Leanne for 24 years. They have three children, Lachlan, Imogen and Harrison. They also have one energetic and obedient German Shepherd named Storm.
Nathan has been attending Hervey Bay Baptist Church for 10 years, and has been on the Eldership for five of those years. Nathan was on the church board at Gladstone Baptist Church for six years.
When I asked Nathan about his history with HBBC, he shared the following: "When I came to HBBC I tried to fit into a group, but those I was asking were all busy with their kids and commencing their families. So I asked about starting a Life Group where we could serve others and be hospitable. The group grew, and at its peak had 22 adults and 28 Kids."
Nathan started studying a Graduate Diploma of Divinity at Malyon Theological College when he began serving on the Eldership. When I asked Nathan why he serves as an Elder, his response was pretty humble. "I actually want to see gifted preachers, evangelists, teachers of the word, and great pastors, to be all that they can be, and not be burdened by the 'administrivia' of policy and process. I want to be a complimentary servant alongside Pastors and inspired leaders of the church that can grow and love the church through their service. Hearing the Unity of the Holy Spirit speaking to and through the other members of the Eldership, as they too hear the Word of God, and faithfully speak Love, and act humbly to honour God through serving the church."
Nathan is passionate about "running the race" (Hebrews 12:1-3) and helping others to run the race in a way that they can live confidently in their faith, persevere through hardships, and endure in a way that they will not grow weary.
Thanks, Nathan, for serving us the way you do.
