Faith Flourishes through Flood Crisis
This story was brought to the church by Sue Watson a few months ago. It is a pleasure to finally be able to share it with you all ~ Sam B
Three major flood events in 2022 saw the devastation of the homes and lives of thousands of people along Australia's east coast. Lucy, a single mother of two, was one of them.
Flood waters inundated their home overnight, destroying their accommodation, their possessions and their hope. Lucy found herself in an emergency shelter, sleeping on a rough concrete floor with a few blankets to keep her and her children warm. With no family or friends to turn to in this dire moment of need, Lucy's outlook was bleak.
This is where the generosity of the Christian community came into play.
A local Christian family decided to welcome Lucy and her kids into their home, no questions asked. Lucy, who had some faith, saw this extension of grace to her family as the hand of God. She was able to stay with these good Samaritans for three months, where both her and her children had time to process, to recover, and to see God's love.
Lucy believes that this devastating experience ended up giving her and her children physical mending, emotional healing, and the confidence to trust God again.
Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
