Our Stories
Our Ministry at Mundubbera
Our life group, led by Mark and Kathy Payne, had the privilege of going to Mundubbera, a few hours west of Hervey Bay, on the weekend of 23 April. We knew that Mundubbera Baptist Church was struggling because it has no permanent pastor and we were excited by this opportunity initiated by Pastor Keith and Lawrence and Pat, who regularly travel from Brisbane to minister there. The church also shares in our services at HBBC through live streaming. A member of our life group had a strong sense that we should go out and bless the people attending that church, and in doing so, bless the town and local area too.
How good is it to get to meet brothers and sisters in Christ and have the immediate sense of being one in God’s family and together being part of His body, the Church.
We joined with the church for a Saturday night barbeque and got to know many of the church family through conversation over good food. On Sunday our group led the service and Mark’s preaching challenged us all. The morning tea that followed the service gave us an opportunity to meet more people and strengthen relationships we had made the previous evening. It gave us great joy and purpose in serving others. Conversation with the leaders generated ideas of how HBBC could partner with Mundubbera Baptist Church in the future. We recognised that we are co-missioners: their mission becomes ours and our mission becomes theirs.
We saw our role as being encouragers, and the feedback we received was that ‘it’s nice that people are doing something for us.’ We became sounding boards for our brothers and sisters in Christ as they sought to work through issues relevant to being a small church in a small community. The potential for using their great facilities to minister to the town is never far from their thoughts.
Let this be an encouragement to you to seize every opportunity to GO in mission!
