Children's Ministry Director
Tell us a little about yourself, your family, and your role at HBBC.
I grew up in South Africa and emigrated to Australia at the end of 2000. Russ and I have been married for 30 years and we have two adult children, Jenna who is married to Rob, and Jaydon. I am the Children’s Director at Hervey Bay Baptist Church.
How long have you been attending HBBC? What drew you to this church?
Hervey Bay Baptist Church has been our home church for 22 years. It was the first church we tried when we moved to Hervey Bay, and we have been here ever since. We were drawn to the church because of the sound Christian beliefs, and we felt welcomed. Meeting families and joining a life group helped us settle in.
How long have you been following Jesus for? If you had to pick one story of Jesus’ ministry that stands out to you the most, what would it be?
I have been a Christian since I was a young child, however, it was in my teenage years that my relationship with Jesus became my own. There isn’t one particular story that stands out the most for me, however, I love the parables that Jesus told. I can relate to stories and find when stories are told as examples it makes my understanding of the bible easier.
What's your "Christian passion"?
Children’s ministry. Children's ministry is the greatest mission field. Most people become Christians before the age of 18; this is why it’s a crucial age to reach children for Jesus. Jesus made time for children. He said “Let the children come.” (Matt 19:14)!
If you could be in your favourite place in the world, doing your favourite thing in the world, where would you be, and what would you be doing?
Having a holiday with Russ, travelling around Australia, "glamping' (not camping!!!).
