The Power of Prayer

It was one of those classic humid Hervey Bay days. John was having a break outside his workplace. As he stood in the shade enjoying some time out of the warehouse, he noticed a man who appeared to be struggling. Hunched over and in obvious pain, the man looked like he had been walking for a long time. John felt a strong prompting in his heart, so he approached the man and asked if he was okay.

The man, who had just come out of day surgery, shared that he had been walking since 10 a.m. to get to his destination, and it was now 2 p.m. Without hesitation, John offered to pray for the man. The man, overwhelmed with shock and emotion, broke down in tears and sobbed into John's shoulder. It was a powerful moment as John stood there, praying for a stranger on the street, offering comfort and hope amid pain and loneliness.

After their encounter, John continued with his day, but he couldn't forget about the man he had met. He wondered how he was doing. By the grace of God, a few weeks later, John saw the man again. He approached him and asked how he was doing. The man's face lit up as he shared that the prayer John had offered that day had saved him. "I didn't think anybody cared," he said, as he wiped away tears.

John's story is a powerful reminder that sometimes, the tugs we feel on our heart are actually the Holy Spirit calling us to act. John's simple prayer, which cost him nothing but a little bit of courage, meant the world to this man. What a powerful reminder that the call to obedience to God is not always for our comfort, but for the comfort of others.
