2 Timothy
By James Dearden
Over the next four weeks as we reflect on a chapter of 2 Timothy, consider the following questions as you read. I will then give some personal thoughts as I attempt to answer a question or two myself.
Read 2 Tim 1:1-18
Some of James’ personal thoughts...
As I read the passage I loved how deep the friendship, relationship and discipleship was between Paul and Timothy. Paul was discipling Timothy in the faith and their relationship was so deep that they cried together. This makes me reflect on my own discipleship and the depth I take these relationships. I have people who disciple me and those I disciple. I desire that both ways are deep and transparent to go deeper in our faith together.
Verse 7, has always been a verse I liked. "For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline." (NIV) This verse was a timely reminder on Sun Aug 17 when I was preaching. If you’re not aware, public speaking is personally not my favourite way to serve, and that Sunday was no different. I am getting better and more comfortable, but I found myself wishing away the morning so it could be over. I had to confess my sin to God and did so in front of people in our time of prayer before the service. This verse was essentially what they prayed over me, and pretty much all anxious feelings left me. I was able to preach and minister to people freely because of my confession and the answer to prayer.
Take time to pray through your thoughts and discussion with God.

- What does this say about God?
- What do you see or what stands out for you through this passage?
- What is God saying to you?
- What is God asking you to do or who do you need to tell?
