Youth Trip to Mundubbera
By Josh Faint and Sam Berechree
The youth of HBBC had the fantastic opportunity of visiting Mundubbera Baptist Church in June. This church does not currently have a Senior Pastor, and different groups from HBBC have been visiting throughout the year to offer support.
The youth participated in two main activities at the local Saturday markets; face painting and sports. The face painting station offered a lot of time to chat to the locals, and some valuable lessons were learned. One youth in particular was struck by the profound realisation that people in small towns really have to rely on each other. They noticed that there were far less things to do in Mundubbera than in Hervey Bay, and as a result, the connection and collegiality between friends seemed far stronger. The youth witnessed that connecting with others and working together as a body is really important when you are in isolated situations.
The young adults in Mundubbera are also aware of the unique challenges that small town living brings. The local baker, for example, had been baking in the town for 5 years. When asked if he'd completed any apprenticeships, he commented that he could never do that to the town, as his leaving to pursue further education would leave the town without a baker! The community mindset, even for youth and young adults, is so strong.
Our youth learned that we have so much to learn from one another, and that we all have such special and important roles to play within our own communities, as well as in the church. We have a responsibility to act as the body of Christ, and be there to play our part; to be a body of Christ that grows and reaches out to the community we live in. It was a special time of serving and growing in our faith together!
