2 Timothy
By James Dearden
Last week we read 2 Timothy 2 and I asked some questions of you. Let's look at these again in reflection.
Now read 2 Tim 3:1 - 17
Some of James’ personal thoughts...
In the start of Chapter 3 we see all these horrible characteristics and I think gosh, I have done all of those, some of them A LOT. Yet when we read this, we must be sober-minded and bring it to the Lord. We are all sinful and yes, I have done these things and must bring them before the Lord in confession and repentance. However, in the context of the verses, it’s talking about people who lived among them that were like wolves in sheep’s clothing, who were taking advantage of people and claiming to be Christians but were not accepting of Jesus Christ genuinely.
I love verse 16 as many people do. If we want to grow in God, we must be reading and learning the bible as often as we can. It is the bible with the Holy Spirit that teaches, corrects, rebukes and trains in righteousness. This is the strategy to make sure we don’t become like the people in verses 1-9.
Pray through your thoughts and discussion with God.
- How did you do with what God gave you?
- Were you able put into practice what he asked of you?
- If you weren’t why were you not able to?
Now read 2 Tim 3:1 - 17
- What does this say about God?
- What do you see or what stands out for you through this passage?
- What is God saying to you?
- What is God asking you to do or who do you need to tell?
