Madness
By Miriam Frangakis
Now that the madness is over and we take time to stop and reflect, we can truly say "Thank You Jesus for all that You do, and are doing, in the lives of our young people".
Maryborough Madness ran from the 18th to the 22nd September out at the Aldershot Scouts Grounds. We had 37 campers – grades 5 & 6 and 12 leaders on full steam for the entire five days.
Yes, it is exhausting, but so worth it!
It’s an amazing opportunity to share Jesus, for kids to see ‘Jesus’, to hear about Jesus and to ask those deep questions – and believe you me, they ask!
Besides two kids going to ED - one with a reaction to a wasp sting, and the other having run into a laser gun during laser skirmish and cut his eye - one child going home due to vomiting and two leaders getting sick, camp was without ‘incident’. When you think of all that could go wrong, God certainly had his angels hard at work.
On a more serious note, what I love about Maryborough Madness is the exposure the kids get to the gospel and the freedom I can have to share my faith. Everything is centred around God, and they know this from the beginning. Most of the kids that come do not come from Christian backgrounds, so, to be spiritually saturated for five days for many of them is totally foreign.
From the fun graces that we sing or rap every time we eat, to the hour and a half daily God time we have, they are surrounded by love and family. We have several kids in care that come and many of them are starved of good role models and love.
After our first devotion on Peter and having courage, one of the girls in my group managed to do the Kayaking which she was terrified to do. She told me it was because she knew God was with her.
On Friday we wrap up with an invitation to follow Jesus. This year six kids made a first-time commitment and two recommitments. Praise God. We gift these children with Bibles and encourage them to join a local Kids Club or church.
Thank you for your prayers. Please continue to pray as many of these children will go back into difficult situations. May God empower them with courage and strength.
