Enjoy the reflections of both Lachlan & Imogen on being Junior Leaders.

My name is Lachlan Wyer, and I have been a Junior Leader heading on 5yrs now. Junior leading has given me many opportunities to grow in leadership skills and faith.

I started Junior Leading in late Grade 7, almost right when the program started. In the beginning I didn't understand the role, responsibilities or opportunities that were being presented to me. To me Junior Leading was a place at which I could still be part of Kids Club, joining in games and generally still being a kid. I was very blessed to first have Mrs. Frangos, and then Mrs. Fuller, put up with me during this time.

During these early years I was not a very good role model of a Junior Leader. Not being helpful in setup or pack up of activities, and not getting children focused on listening to Leaders or hyped for the games, when in fact the role of a Junior Leader is “to become less and less” so that the actual Senior Leader “can become more” (John 3:30).

Once I learned this lesson, I started to understand how to become an effective Junior Leader. I help with the setup and pack up of activities, as well as helping children focus upon the Senior Leader. Trying to become a Leader instead of being a kid. When this “becoming less” became a habit, I gained the attention of Mrs. Fuller who started giving me opportunities to run the games instead of helping. Pushing the boundaries of my comfort zone, starting to get comfortable with being embarrassed, and taking no offence to being an example for anything.

As I started to develop in leadership skills and grow in the zone of comfortability, I was only given more opportunities to learn and then grow.

This year I was asked if I wished to learn and then start creating Kids Club devotionals. Junior Leading has given me many opportunities over the years. Continually pushing me out of my comfort zone and expanding the boundaries of what I can do. Remembering that a Junior Leader is there not to have fun but to learn how to lead effectively. Exemplifying servant leadership and leading from the back.

It is a program that I would recommend anyone to get into.

My name is Imogen Wyer, and I have been doing junior leading since Grade 7, which means I have done it for 3 years now.

Every year, I have been receiving more opportunities and responsibilities, which has only just made the experience better and improved the way that I work. Junior leading is not only about sharing God`s word and amazing love, but also about embarrassing ourselves for the kid`s entertainments and creating strong relationships with the children in our group.

It is just really heart-warming and rewarding when kids arrive at kids Church and kids Club running in saying your name and hugging you. Moments like this, make me so happy for the kids and wish that I had people like that when I was younger.

Mrs Colleen Fuller has given my friend, Serafina, and I the great opportunity to run the age 3 to Prep Kids Church room on every Sunday morning  during the church service. Doing this has extended mine and Serafina’s faith, as we are not only just taking in information, but we are having to share the word of God to young kids.

Much like every other Junior Leader, we are all very thankful for all the opportunities and responsibilities that Mr and Mrs Fuller has given us.
