Nothing Without Love

And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing.
1 Corinthians 13:2
1 Corinthians 13:2
The apostle Paul spent chapter 12 of 1 Corinthians speaking about spiritual gifts and ministry and how the unity of the church was important for the gifts to work. The Corinthian church had all the spiritual gifts, including the supernatural ones. Yet Paul is making an important point. Within just a couple of sentences of him saying “earnestly pursue the great gifts” he speaks on what is infinitely more important, love.
We may be tempted as a church to measure our success by size, community impact, even supernatural displays of power. But to God, what matters most is faith, hope, and love. Love being the focus in this chapter. The measure of maturity for a Christian, and indeed a church, is the love of Christ flowing out. How does our love look? What are we doing that shows genuine love to others and devoted love to God. Love is what makes us great. Ask God how he wants you to love.
God bless you and your family
