Friday Families

At the beginning of this year, James and Mel Dearden and Sam and Christian Berechree began a Life Group for families that coincided with Friday Night Kid’s Club. Sam tells us a little about Friday Families:

'Friday Families has been a long time coming, but it’s hard to say when or how the idea came into being. I guess we all had it.

See, four of us co-facilitate this life group, which we all feel fills a gap that needs filling, a space where parents can gather, with or without their children, to connect and share with others in similar life stages. We run the group at the same time as Kids Club and just prior to Friday Night Youth. In our first meeting, we sat at a table with three others. It was a pretty good turnout, I thought. Our next meeting doubled that number.

So far, we’ve shared stories of our Christian journey, prayed for one another, gone through Brett’s sermon series, laughed, and gotten to know one another. It’s a great vibe.
It’s also refreshing to do a Life Group with one’s partner again. It’s something we’ve all loved. There seems to be an oddly natural pattern whereby once you have babies that turn into toddlers and small children, husbands can get together in God’s words, and so can wives, but rarely can they do it as a partnership. Seeing my husband’s growth and wisdom through our studies after seven years of separation in different groups is terrific. I hope he feels the same for me, and I suspect that for others, it’s a similar story.'

Friday Families meet each Friday of the school term between 5 and 6:30 p.m. For further information, please call our office at 4124 7200.
