Learning to Wait

"Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift He promised, as I told you before. John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit."
Acts 1:4-5
Acts 1:4-5
I can only imagine how the disciples would have felt once they knew Jesus had risen from the dead. Finally, the full perspective of the gospel was realised. Now they understood. The pain of loss melted away. Confusion was replaced by enlightenment. A scattered band of men became a team on a mission. And what did Jesus tell them to do with this newfound knowledge and enthusiasm? – WAIT.
The disciples now had the understanding of the gospel, but there was a delay in the timing of when they would go public with it. They had knowledge but not power. This is another lesson on how God’s timing isn’t always the same as our expectation. Patience is a pathway less walked these days, as enthusiasm pushes us forward to start this, step up to that, desire leadership, influence, and significance etc. But patience is crucial in learning the lessons of walking with God rather than in the flesh. Learn to listen for his prompting and don’t be in such a rush to run ahead with your own resources. There just may be something you are missing still.
God bless you and your family
