Introducing

Women of The Word

Jessica Andersen initiated a "Women of The Word" Life Group by welcoming women to her home in January 2023.  Here is the group's inspiring story:

'The ladies in this group, being in their middle to later years in life, have, without exception, essential roles as leaders and mentors in their families, workplaces, and volunteer activities. I guess you could say that one of our strong points is the wealth of wisdom and experience collected in this group.

Our fundamental goal, then, is to continue diligently studying the scriptures and drinking in that wisdom to not only make wise decisions for ourselves but also provide wise counsel to the many people who depend on us in different ways at our stage of life (spouses, children, grandchildren, extended family, aging parents, workmates, and others in the community).

I like Martin Luther’s observation that “Family”, not the monastery, is God’s school of character (The Book that Made Your World - Vishal Mangalwadi).
“Women of the Word” seeks to increase our Biblical knowledge and wisdom so that we can be good teachers in that school.

Something our group has enjoyed doing together is cooking for the community dinner at “The Lounge” in Torquay (StreetWorks ministry) about every five weeks. These mums and grandmas have certainly had some experience feeding people, and it’s terrific to see what they all come up with each time. We have been blessed and challenged by participating in this meal-cooking and serving.

"Women of the Word" has mainly followed the sermons in Term 1. In Term 2, we are looking forward to diving into “The Acts of the Apostles!”
